A Facebook user from South Carolina generated a media storm after he uploaded a video showing how a police kicked out a homeless man whom he treated to a meal at a McDonald’s restaurant.
Yossi Gallo, the man who took the five-minute-video, turned to Facebook to share the unfortunate incident. In the five minute video, a Myrtle Beach police officer stands in front of a skinny man who’s sitting at a booth in McDonald’s while eating his meal. The said officer informed the man that after he finishes his meal, he needs to leave the restaurant and never return.
Gallo can be heard telling the staff of McDonald’s that they suck for kicking the homeless man out of the fast-food chain. This action leads to a restaurant manager telling him that he needs to leave the restaurant too for being disorderly.
Personally Paid for the Meal
The video owner told the officer that he personally paid for the homeless man’s meal and he’s not even asking for money from the people in the restaurant.
He didn’t even ask me for food.. you guys suck.
I will never be back here.. he didn’t even ask me for food. I asked him inside.
Reason for Kicking Out the Homeless Man
According to the officer, several people called the police department to complain about the presumably homeless man who is asking for cash in an area outside the fast-food chain.
In the video, the homeless man also said “I won’t come back here anymore” and tried to quickly eat a few fries.
Because of the incident, Gallo asked for a refund while a manager handed him a paper bag to bag his food. He then initiated a refund once again, to which the police officer explains that he can’t mandate the restaurant to give him a refund and he needs to get his stuff and leave.
Not the Whole Story
Captain Joey Crosby of the Myrtle Beach Police confirmed that the incident happened in the area. He stated that officers were dispatched to the location after receiving a call from an employee claiming that a man was in the parking lot asking people for money. When the officer arrived at McDonald’s, an employee pointed out that the said homeless person is already eating inside. The said employee wanted the man to receive a trespassing warning and be removed from the establishment.
The owner of the outlet, Joel Pellicci, also explained their side, pointing out that:
The individual in this video has a history of disruptive behavior and has been asked to leave by management and police on several occasions.
Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune also defended the officer’s action, saying that she handled herself in the most professional manner. She also stated that she watched the officer’s body camera video and based on the footage, everyone does not know the entire story.
Yesterday there was a video that went viral on Facebook about an incident that happened with a homeless gentleman, a local business and one of our police officers. What you will not see in that video is the whole story.
