The Lost iPhone

In a Facebook post, the Grab driver himself, Armando Yabut (Kiel Nigel Yabut on Facebook) turned to social media to seek justice that he deserves. According to him, he dropped a passenger named Jinno John P. Simon around 12:21 AM last February 9 going to Kamuning. However, the said passenger left his iPhone at the back of his car.

With Grab’s general rule, he got in touch with the company to locate the owner. After giving Yabut’s number to Simon, they started to exchange text messages.

At the beginning, the passenger was kind and polite and asked him to return the phone. However, Yabut refused since he is already in his house in Taytay, Rizal and asked if he could just deliver the said phone later that day since it is after midnight already. However, Simon said it is very important and it’s an emergency. He also offered to pay PHP1000, which Yabut refused since it is part of the service to return what’s accidentally left by the passengers.

Unexpected Treatment

In good faith, Armando drove to Kamuning, Quezon City. When he reached the destination and delivered the phone to Simon at around 2:00 AM, he was surprised with the response: Simon started beating up Armando. The beating was severe and made his eyes and ears bled.

After Yabut begged for his life, Simon grabbed his throat and yelled to his neighbors “magnanakaw to!”

The grab driver tried to explain again until the passenger realized his mistake. After apologizing, Yabut told him that he will report it to the authorities. Simon then contacted the police and turned over the driver to the barangay using his previous story that the Grab driver is a thief.

According to Yabut’s cousin, Yabut was not able to air his side anymore since the barangay already sided with the complainant. They also intimidated him by saying:

Mas grabe mangyayari sayo sa loob ng kulungan pag hindi ka pa umamin.
Umamin ka na para matapos na ito.

The driver was forced to sign an agreement before he let them go at around 5:00 AM that day. After returning to his family, he was taken to the hospital and they returned to the Kamuning Police Station to file the complaint.

The family is now asking for justice especially since Simon is claiming that he is well connected in Kamuning.
