American late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel noticed the effigy of US President Donald Trump which was set on fire by protesters from the Philippines during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit last November 13.
In a recent episode of his talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the TV host jokingly pointed out that President Trump received an “exceptionally warm welcome” from Filipinos, before flashing the clips from the protests during the ASEAN summit.
Comparatively, our protests here suck. I mean, where did they get that giant Trump fidget spinner? That’s amazing!
The effigy that featured President Trump with four arms resembling a fidget spinner was created by Filipino artist group Ugat Lahi. It was a symbol of hatred, authoritarian rule, and anti-Semitism. Since Trump had a long time following of white supremacist groups, which is connected to his remarks regarding immigration and other hot issues.
Insulted President Duterte
Behind Trump’s legs is a caricature of the current President of the Philippines, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Duterte described the President as “an absolute lunatic” and a “murderer.”
He encourages the police to kill people who use drugs. No trials. They just kill people. Of course, he and Donald get along.
Duterte is known for his anti-illegal drugs campaign which drew a mix of criticism and support from local and international communities. Based on the official date from the Philippine National Police, at least 3,850 people were killed in police operations while 2,290 were killed by unknown vigilantes.
Because of his remarks, Filipino supporters of Duterte bashed Kimmel on his Facebook page.
